ABOUT Seasonal CHARTERs

The weather is constantly changing in Florida and with each progression to a new season comes a different type of fishing to experience. Whether it be kingfish migrating in the spring or fall or tarpon appearing in the summer, or snook making their way from the muddy backwaters to the beaches, these fish are consistently migrating and moving to adapt. As our seasons change, I do my best to keep up and stay on top of the hottest bite.

Fall (September-November)

Fall fishing can be whatever you want it to be. Nearshore the bite can be nonstop as we target mackerel and kingfish while they migrate down the coast. Chumming and trolling can produce days where the bite is nonstop action. Don’t want to be that busy? Many of our afternoons are spent relaxing on the grass flats at low tide sight fishing schools of redfish.

Winter (December-February)

December, January and February can be weather dependent due to stiff winds in conjunction with our cold fronts, but if we are lucky enough to catch one of these nicer days we can run into the Gulf of Mexico up to 9 miles. Here we target many species. On these nearshore trips we target snapper, grouper, cobia, tripletail, hogfish, grouper, and more. On windier days, or for groups that don’t want to lose sight of shore, Inshore Trips would include targeting snook, redfish, trout, sheepshead and grouper.

Spring (March-April)

Spring is when the weather and water temperature starts to warm up, along with the fishing. Many fish that lay dormant in protected creeks and canals start to move out and make their way onto the flats, and other areas more exposed seeking food and enjoying the warmer weather. While the tarpon are just starting to arrive this time of year, we cash in on other migratory species such as kingfish, cobia, bonita, mackerel, sharks, and black drum.

Summer-Tarpon Charters (May-August)

Beginning in May through the middle of August is my favorite time of the year. It’s tarpon season here on the west coast of Florida. Both local and migratory fish show face in Tampa Bay this time of year, whether migrating up the coast or emerging from the muddy backwaters, the silver king flies in the summertime!  Clients travel from far and wide to hook into one of these monster fish during the summer window. The waters are warm and the fish are hungry!
